Peace of Mind in Unsettling Times.

Text: You will guard and keep him in perfect and constant peace whose mind (both its inclination and character) is stayed on You, because he commits himself to You, leans on You, and hopes confidently in You. (Isaiah 26:3 AMP translation).

When we see what is going on in our World global pandemics, earthquakes, climate change, twenty-four hours of nonstop bad news on the television it could lead to anxiety, and a feeling of hopelessness as we focus continually on how bad things are.

Your mind is ultimately responsible for how you live your life as a child of God. As you think so you are. One of the most important things that you can do as a follower of Jesus Christ is to think on things that are true.

Far too often Satan tries to place subtle lies within our thoughts. They aren’t enough to attract our attention, but they are enough to get our line of thinking off of the truth. In order to remain focused on the truth, it is essential to commit the Word of God to memory.

In Philippians 4:8 Paul, under the direction of the Holy Spirit, writes that we are to think (dwell) on whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, whatever is worthy of praise, think, dwell and meditate on these things. The reverse of this is also true; we are to guard our minds in Christ Jesus from thinking on what is not true, pure, etc. Our minds are integral to how we live our lives, what decisions we make, what words we choose to use and the level of faith that we exercise. That is why in Ephesians 6:11 one of the pieces of the “whole,” armor of God, is the helmet of salvation, it is necessary in order to guard our minds.

We as humans fear the unknown and the things that we have no control over. However, God’s Word constantly reminds us that He is always in control and that He never leaves or forsakes those who have come by faith to Him through Christ. Psalm 108:12-13, states that deliverance by man is in vain however through God we will be victorious and it is God who will destroy our adversaries.

Reflection: As you go through life what do you focus on the good, the bad or God? God has allowed this pandemic to happen and He will address it according to His Sovereign Will. Therefore, it is imperative that every child of God focus on the truth of God’s word and not the situation, because our text tells us we will be kept in perfect peace because we put our trust in God and we focus on God and Him alone.

Prayer: Thank you God, that You have been so good to me. I ask that You will help me to keep my mind focused on You and I am grateful for the many good things You have given me. Forgive me for my complaining spirit and enable me to see You in every situation that I face.
